Running Business Central 365 Online.
We have been running into an issue with subassembly functionality when utilizing Production BOMs and routing.
Basically, this is what we're doing:
Item A: Parent Part that has subassembly part Item B welded onto it
- Has Item B in a Production BOM attached to it and a route attached to weld Item B to it. This product is the finished item that is sold to customers.
Item B: Subassembly Part to be used in Item A
- Has a Production BOM attached to it with raw materials and a route to produce this specific subassembly part.
What we are finding is that we cannot post this off of a production order, or consume raw goods because the production order expects that Item B has to be in inventory to complete building Item A.
If someone could give any direction on the best practice to build subassembly functionality like this with production orders, BOMs, and routes, that would be awesome!
Hi jman16,
Thank you for posting on the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Forum.
It would seem that you may want to try to use the standard "Phantom BOM" functionality. Rather than setting a Type of Item for Item B on the lines of the Production BOM for A, you would select the "Production BOM" for the Type on the Production BOM setup and select Item B. As long as B is fully setup as a Produced Item with a Production BOM, the system is now looking at the components of Item B and producing Item B as part of making Item A.
