To perform bulk edits to our product database on Dynamics 365 Business Central I use the Edit in Excel function. Once I click the Publish button it is very slow to process the changes. For example, I might load 5000 rows of data and edit the values in one column such as the price. When I click the Publish button the changes process at a rate of about 100 per 10 minutes. After one hour it will time out. I then refresh the table, re-enter my edits and click publish again. This continues for hours until I complete the task. (I edit the Item data for our sister company in what is an almost identical Business Central set up, and that works in a reasonable time. 5000 rows update there in only 10 minutes.)
The problem is worse during business hours, however we only have 8 staff using the system. The Synchronisation log does not show any problems, sync times range from 40-800ms. I have cleared out all but 1 Job Queue Entries. We are currently looking at removing redundant images in case they are causing performance issues. I don't seem to have any other performance issues when using Business Central, it is only the "Edit in Excel" function.
Our developer has not yet managed to identify the cause of the problem. I would be very grateful for a troubleshooting checklist for potential causes of this slowness to pass on.
