Best method to temporarily remove user access to CRM

Hi

Does anyone have any advice on the preferred method to 'lock' users temporarily out of CRM during a period whilst new/updated solutions are promoted (this can take approx 30 mins or so). Our main aim is to stop any further db activity apart from that carried out by the system administrator and one of our concerns is that our users leave Outlook open and the CRM add-in continues to interact with CRM. What we cannot easily do is force users to shut Outlook etc. We've considered disabling users but not sure how the add-in will react if suddenly it no longer has access - quite likely to throw errors back at the user? And also how does it then know, after the change has been applied, that the user has access again?

Thoughts please - thanks

Usually when you import solution, you take down time. You can remove roles from the users as well but it will still throw errors to them. So its always advisable to take a downtime or do it at odd hours when users are not working.

Hi - thanks - this is what we currently do but there's is never a time when all users machine are off and outlook isn't potentially running.
