Access Rights Maintenance

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi Everyone,

I have a quick question.  I have a new employee who uses the credit manager's assistant in order management.  When she runs it everything appears to work but she still gets message 6812 stating she does not have the proper access rights.  Now she is set up as a credit manager.  and she has full rights to that screen under an accountsreceivable group role assigned to her (full view update, insert, delete).  Just out of curiosity I assigned the right explicitly to her user and I still get the message.  I have checked and there are no customizations to that screen.  I was wondering if any of you had any ideas on what else to check.

I am giving up on this there is nothing in the system that should be causing this.  I'm going to get a SQL profile done and get to the bottom of it.

    Hello Scott,

Are other users able to use the screen without any issues? In other words, is this issue only occurring to one user? Did you check the EventLog for further details for what entailed prior to the error? At what point does the user encounter the error?

    Scott,

Contrary to popular belief, individual user rights do not trump group rights.  It is the other way around.  So, if the user is a member of a group that does not have the necessary rights then assigning those rights to the individual user will nto do what you intended.  Instead, you need to make the user a member of a group that has the necessary rights.  If that means creating a new group, then that is what you have to do or you have to remove this user from all groups and then grant individual user rights.

I used to think that individual rights trumped group rights but recently found out it does not work that way (too bad because working that way would allow more flexibility).
