Global Data Synchronization - How is your company addressing this issue within GP?

We have two large customers that required that we implement Global Data Synchronization. To meet their requirement we developed a custom software application that allows the store and maintenance of item data that could not be stored in native GP. The custom application was developed prior to my arrival here and we are soon to start an upgrade from GP9 to GP2010. I'm wondering how others have addressed Global Data Synchronization within GP2010. We would like to address current and possible future customer requirements to use Global Data Synchronization within GP using the GP database. One solution that comes to mind is to use Extender if the native GP database does not provide placeholders for the type of data required for Global Data Synchronization. At this point I'm not yet very familiar with the Extender product. I also found that a Google search on GP and Global Data Synchronization returned some results for Redtail Solutions. So, in summary how is your company satisfying Global Data Synchronization requirements with GP? Thank you.

    Hi Larry,

    It sounds like you do need an EDI trading partner like RedTail who can handle interfacing this information back and forth between you and your customers and/or suppliers.

    I have worked with RedTail in the past and if you shoot me an email I can get you in contact with someone there who can get you more of the details involved in setting something like this up.

    Additionally, my company ( The Northlake Partners ) offers a product called BluWare which integrates directly with Dynamics GP Inventory (as well as Sales SOP ) and handles managing many different item configuration settings that GP does not have. You can do things like add item attributes ( or properties ) on demand and more. If you are interested in moving this to a supported product instead of using Extender you could use BluWare Inventory for GP to handle this. Let me know if you need any more information on BluWare.

    Thank you for your response.

    My knowledge of Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) is limited to what I have read about it and related subjects on Wikipedia and what I find in our custom database.

    GDSN uses Global Trade Item numbers (GTIN) to enable trading partners to exchange product data.

    Our custom database includes a table that contains GTIN, GP Item number, Uniform Code Council (UCC) codes, purchasing case cube volume, purchasing case cube volume UOM (Inches etc.), case dimensions (L x W x H), quantity of sellable product in the case cube etc.

    In addition to providing this information to our customers we also plan to use the volumetric data to enable the apportionment of purchasing landed costs by volume.
