Ended up calling out partner and they fixed this for me.

It sounds like you're using Financial Statements within Dynamics GP and not Management Reporter, which is why people are asking for more information. In order to create a a financial statement for a different year, you'll need to go to Financial > Quick Financial and select the Balance Sheet report and set the year to the current year and save it.
When we were under my old company I would just copy the previous years report and change the dates/ I have no previous year as the new company began Apr 2015.
The P&L does not exist. I go to Financial/Financial Statements click on Reports and the only thing there is the Balance Sheet.

Can you please provide a little more detail. Maybe you can post a screen shot of the window from which you are trying to create the P&L
Typically you either Management Reporter or Advanced Financial to gather the details and prepare the report you are mentioning, but, there are a number of ways that partners may have created for you, so, post back some more details and the community will assist.
