Collate orders and pick tickets/packing slips.

Posted on by 360

I have a client who prints large batches of orders and picking tickets multiple times a day.  Since GP 2013 didn't have the ability to collate the documents, when they print a large batch, it prints all the orders first, then the picking tickets, or vice versa.  I couldn't find a way for it to print an order and then a picking ticket in sequence so their printer could auto staple the documents.  Therefore, their current process is to print all documents, separate into two piles, one orders and one picking tickets, and then manually staple the related documents together.

We have since upgraded them to GP 2016, and they are in the process of purchasing a new printer.  I still don't see the option in GP to print the documents in sequence, so it still prints ALL the picking tickets before it prints ALL the orders.  The client is wondering whether this can be accomplished because if it can, they will purchase a printer that has stapling capabilities, if it's not possible then they won't purchase that feature.

So, does anyone know of a setting or third-party product or customization or anything that will allow GP to print orders and picking tickets in sequence so they can be auto collated and stapled?

Thank you,

Tanner

    Tim,

I misspoke, they print the orders and packing slips, and I believe the reason for the orders is because they use it as a picking ticket.  Don't recall the exact reason why they use an order to pick rather than printing the picking ticket.  I believe it had some relevant information on it that was useful to them and was absent from the picking ticket.

I'm nosy and for better understanding, why do they pint the orders? I get why pint the pick lists but why orders too?

I moved our picking to crystal and then to reporting services when it came out (before GP supported it) and have a windows service that prints the pick lists as they become available, to the warehouse printer.

Thank you for the response.  I've concluded that GP won't do it and offered the client some third-party add-ons that could accomplish it, but they decided to go without it and continue stapling them together manually after printing.  Hopefully MS adds this functionality in the future and we can reevaluate at that time.

    Thanks again!

    Tanner,

I unfortunately have to echo Leslie on this one but I do have an idea of one 3rd party program that may be able to accomplish this. I believe Liaison Messenger EDD could accomplish this if setup correctly. My thought is to use the functionality designed for statements (to attach applicable invoices to each statement and email them). The user would queue the picking tickets into Liaison and then the order. The Liaison application would then "attach" the order and pick ticket and print.

Like I am said I am not 100% sure this is possible. I would reach out to Liaison Software Corporation to confirm (http://liaisonsc.com/).

    Regards,

    Kirk

    Hi Tanner,

I see that nobody answered your question, so I'll give you what I know. I know nothing. I do not know how to do what you're asking. It makes sense to me that it should be available, but I don't know how to do it. Hopefully, someone else does.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
