Export To excel using Copy-paste functionality

Posted on by

Hi All,

I am copying the data from General Journal form and exporting to Excel using Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V. But in 100 lines, first 30 lines are OK but next 40 lines are splitted into two lines and last 30 are in single lines.  The lines which are in single lines are showing correct data. The lines which are splitted into two rows in excel are showing correct but half fields in row 1 and half fields in row 2(one last field of first row is half present in first row and half in second row for eg if the field value is Navision5.0SP1_26084, then in first row, it's Navision5.0SP1 and in second row it's _26084). When I tried to use Navision in-built functionality to export to excel, the data is correct. Can you please suggest the reason of this behaviour.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Bheem

Yes, we can but first you need to identify where and what is that special character, if you are able to find that character in your data then you can check & delete those characters in your data using DELCHR, STRPOS system functions

I am also facing same problem. Can we remove such character while reading text from fields. While creating a text file with such characters, it gives problem.

Yes, I know this already but it was strange that I couldn't see these in Navision when using Citrix.

    Hi Bheem,

It is usually caused by copy and paste text from Excell Cell directly.

    HI All,

    Thanks for your replies.

Yes, there was some special characters present into the Narration field(actually user copy pasted the data from excel to Narration field, so there was two spaces at the end(CR and LF) but in server 2003 R2, these are shown as square boxes) and due to these characters, the line was splitting into two rows.

But I couldn't check this on client screen because client was accessing Navision using Citrix but when I checked the data directly in Navision(without Citrix), I found these special characters. I remove these characters and problem get resolved.

But I am wondering why I couldn't see these special characters while accessing Navision using Citrix. Is Citrix doesn't allow these boxes.

    Regards

    Bheem

There are special characters in text or code fields, often at the end of string. Try to delete them before copy to Excel. As you mentioned, line 31 to 70 should contains them.

Most probably this is due to a special character. (happens to me several times). Try to copy paste only the 31 line and see if that line get pasted properly?

If 31st line does not get pasted properly, then you should check that line for special characters.

    hi,

select the rows you want. right-click on one of the row headers of the selected rows, select Copy from the context menu. Paste the lines into excel.

    Try Ctrl+Shift+C and Ctrl+V.

I am not sure whether this will work on NAV 5.

This works on NAV 2009 and 2013
