Moving MR 2012 to another server

Are there are instructions on how to move MR2012 to another server? I have copied the databases but when I try to restore the ManagmentReporter database all I get is a message telling me the restore failed. Could this be because of MR security and how do I get around this?

Note: the script to reset the master key password JUST changed for CU14.  Make sure you check the KB for the new script (I just ran into that issue yesterday, spinning my wheels on a Sunday over it)  The old script will run but not fully work - won't throw errors either.

It happened to me that I forgot (misplaced) the old encryption password for MR 2012 and this should help you to reset it :

and this thread may help too :

We replaced the original reseller about 4 years ago and no one has any idea what the database encryption password would be so that leaves the Export/Import option as the only choice of option. As I said I need to do this so I can get back to original problem with updating.

RE: Moving MR 2012 to another server

    Richard,

I never tested an MR2012 DB move towards a new server in a different domain.. this could well play in the game.. though if the credentials are fine for the service accounts, it shouldn't matter. My suspicion goes towards the database encryption on the source server and destination server ... remember the thing with the key ?

Exporting all the building blocks in one shot and re-importing them is of course another method that works too.. I've done that once while I had issues with importing some building blocks on the new test server.. unfortunately MR has no option to force / override the imported block if it is already used by an existing report definition... this puzzles me !!!

RE: Moving MR 2012 to another server

I was able to get 32 bit Access and 64 bit Access installed onto this server however now I am stuck at the point during the installation of MR 2012 where it wants to connect to the database. I receive this message.

"The specified integration user credentials aren't valid. Verify that the user name and password are correct and that the user is a member of the 'db_datareader' database role."

I have created an account of the same name in the test domain as in production that is a sysadmin. However, the domain name is different. I am beginning to wonder if the only way this will work it to export the building blocks, create a new MR database and then import these building blocks. If I can get that to work I can begin to work on the original problem and that is to upgrade to CU 14 without the upgrade deleting everything.

    Hi Richard,

Recently did with Export and Import. It's not just restoring MR database but you need to have some kind of key also (Sorry I forgot).

So Export from old server to new server work for me.

    Thanks much

RE: Moving MR 2012 to another server

    Richard,

There were some threads recently going around regarding the Access driver on the MR server 32-bits vs. 64-bits...

Can't quite remember if it was on GPUG or on the Dynamics Community forums..

Mariano had posted something regarding the driver some time back :

    dynamicsgpblogster.blogspot.ca/.../installing-64-bit-microsoft-access-on.html

One thing is for sure : you can't have the 32-bits and 64-bits driver co-exist on the same server :

    www.altova.com/Access-Database-OLEDB-32bit-64bit.html

Does MR 2012 require the 64 bit version of MS Access? This server has 32 Office on it and I installed 32 bit Access. However when I try to install MR 2012 it tells me that Access is not installed. If I try to install 64 bit Access it tells me the Access is not compatible with this OS. The OS is W2012 R2 64 bit.

Turns out the backup was corrupt. I just returned from the clients site where we did a fresh backup and restore. I will now install MR and point to this database after reading through the support articles mentioned.
