SHA-2 compatibility

Hello all,

We got a letter from our bank warning that our software (Microsoft RMS 2.0) might not be compatible with the new TSYS portal set to launch on July 31, 2016 which will implement SHA-2. I was under the impression that version 2.0.2000 was compatible with SHA higher than 128 bit. Is this wrong, or is the bank just sending a letter to cover themselves in case of problems? Anyone know whether we need to panic about this or not?

    RE: SHA-2 compatibility

For those that using Win XP and not fully kept with updates SHA-2 fix is still available on request from MS.

WindowsXP-KB968730-x86-ENU.exe, Google it and you will get a link for request.

On the same note MS continues to make available critical updates for POSReady users of Win XP till 2020.

    RE: SHA-2 compatibility

    Hey Daniel,

Our experience is that RMS is SHA-2 read as long as Windows has SHA2 updates installed.  Some processors have already moved to SHA2 and our clients haven't noticed any problems unless they were running non-updated versions of Windows.

    Todd,

It was last year in August on your last update but will an update be coming from Microsoft to make RMS SHA 2 complaint?

Has there been any updates or definitive statements from Microsoft regarding RMS and TSYS SHA-2?

    Hi David,

Thank you for posting what you found out in regards to this.

In our last discussions with TSYS they stated that it is possible that no changes will be needed in order for RMS to be SHA-2 compatible.

As soon as I have any updates I will let you know.

    Thanks, Todd

    RE: SHA-2 compatibility

I just got off of the phone with IT at TSYS, phone number 1-800-847-2772, and was told that the TSYS proxy server will be switched on August 1st and that this will allow RMS merchants to be able to process credit cards without getting the SHA-2 Certificate until Jan 1st 2017.

I just contacted a TSYS ISO and they do not know anything about a delay in the migration.  Can we get a definitive answer to this?

    Todd,

Our clients continue to receive letters from TSYS about SHA2, like today we've had calls about new letters.  Are you 100% confident about them moving this to Jan 2017?

    RE: SHA-2 compatibility

    HI everyone,

We are continuing to work with TSYS in regard to RMS and SHA-2 complaince; and it is possible that no changes will be needed for RMS to be SHA-2 compliant.

In addition, TSYS' new SHA-2 migration will now start in January 2017.

Please let me know if you have any questions; and as soon as we have any additional information we will let you know.

    Thanks.

    Todd
