SHA-2 compatibility

Hello all,

We got a letter from our bank warning that our software (Microsoft RMS 2.0) might not be compatible with the new TSYS portal set to launch on July 31, 2016 which will implement SHA-2. I was under the impression that version 2.0.2000 was compatible with SHA higher than 128 bit. Is this wrong, or is the bank just sending a letter to cover themselves in case of problems? Anyone know whether we need to panic about this or not?

Here's hoping Microsoft responds to this.  I'm answering in hopes that more activity raises awareness of this thread.

    Hi everyone,

    Sorry for the delay.

We are working with TSYS to meet the new requirements.

As soon as we have any updates we will let you know.

    Thanks, Todd

Wouldn't moving to EMV be a better option? Using the RMS program is not going to get you very far.

    HI everyone,

We are continuing to work with TSYS in regard to RMS and SHA-2 complaince; and it is possible that no changes will be needed for RMS to be SHA-2 compliant.

In addition, TSYS' new SHA-2 migration will now start in January 2017.

Please let me know if you have any questions; and as soon as we have any additional information we will let you know.

    Thanks.

    Todd

    Todd,

Our clients continue to receive letters from TSYS about SHA2, like today we've had calls about new letters.  Are you 100% confident about them moving this to Jan 2017?

I just contacted a TSYS ISO and they do not know anything about a delay in the migration.  Can we get a definitive answer to this?

I just got off of the phone with IT at TSYS, phone number 1-800-847-2772, and was told that the TSYS proxy server will be switched on August 1st and that this will allow RMS merchants to be able to process credit cards without getting the SHA-2 Certificate until Jan 1st 2017.

    Hi David,

Thank you for posting what you found out in regards to this.

In our last discussions with TSYS they stated that it is possible that no changes will be needed in order for RMS to be SHA-2 compatible.

As soon as I have any updates I will let you know.

    Thanks, Todd
