We recently upgraded from CRM 2016 to Dynamics 365. In 2016, we had this nice search bar users could click in and start typing their global search. Like this:
But now with Dynamics 365, you have to click on the Magnifying Glass, and then click again on the search field below it before you can start typing. Why the change? Can we change it back? This change makes no sense and only adds clicks for the user for seemingly no reason.

Yes, figured when I saw the file size as well. Hopefully it will solve this issue...
For me that link is working fine, the file size is 175.5 MB, I installed the patch to test environment, it certainly contains more stuff than just the bing control update, I can see it excuting database updates also.
Not sure. I see what you mean.
It says that release is for Bing Maps update (for the deprecated version 7), but it seems like there is more to it in the update.
The last released update was last Monday (Service Update 4), which does not seem to have resolved this issue.
I think this release (342) is dedicated to Bing Maps, but I could be wrong. It contains the full server upgrade files.
See release 8.2.1.271 in the link below. Not solved here yet.

I'm talking about this update:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=55764
It increases your build number to Version 1612 (8.2.1.342) (DB 8.2.1.342) on-premises
Not much you can do with the new design changes.

Not sure if it will help, but paste the link here, and I am sure people will vote on the idea.
that equates to Version 1612 (8.2.1.176) (DB 8.2.1.176) on-premises
that is what we are using and no, we are NOT seeing it fixed here (in Chrome OR IE 11)
The search bar seems to be fixed with CRM2016-Server-KB4037855-ENU-Amd64.exe
In my test Firefox 54.0.1 (32-bit) requires two clicks.
Firefox does one-click for me as well. As for why, I suspect it's a prep for supporting multiple searches, or search types. So you could have your default global search, and the new Azure-based search in one area.
that, or to support smaller screens. Look at how it behaves if you put CRM to half-width. The older version does that, too.
