You need to give access to modified forms and reports for the users who want this modification.

Please have a look on the below link.

    Hope this helps!!!

Also please have a look on the below link as well.

    support.microsoft.com/.../851052

Note: To find out the ID for Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports window, go to User security window (Tools-->Setup-->System-->User Security) then choose the user id and company name to find out the ID from bottom of the window.

    Hope this helps!!!

    Hi Soma,

Thanks for your reply.  Changing the strings name doesn't create modified form so no option for granting access to modified form.  When I change the strings name it doesn't change window name but after I went to modify current window and change the title of window,  modified window started appearing.  So I given access to the same and I can see it now.  My next question is I am going to change all the text fields on this window and rename it and still it appearing on the modified window with the new names.  So user one will have access to original window with default name and user 2 will have modified window with modified name.  Is there any other implication or issues if I do this.  Also how to rename the Cards-Customer into different name.

    Hi All,

I also have another question about modifying windows on the following scenario.

    1) GP installed with 2 instance

    2) Modifying customer window on instance 1 and giving access to specific users

    3) GP instance 2 haven't modified

so question is when I login to company x on instance one it should have customer window standard and modified and when I login to instance 2 it should have only one customer window which is default.   Is this possible at all.

    Dear Babu,

For your first question, I am going to change all the text fields on this window and rename it and still it appearing on the modified window with the new names.  So user one will have access to original window with default name and user 2 will have modified window with modified name.  Is there any other implication or issues if I do this.  Also how to rename the Cards-Customer into different name.

Label/String change wont affect anything on this window. You can assign the modified window for one user and original for another user until you write any coding/triggers on window open pre event. But, you can not change the Menu name (Cards-Customer).

Note: For changing Menu name, I think we can use some dexterity trigger to delete the original menu and create a new menu with custom name. I didn't try this as of now, but I think we can do this.

    Hope this helps!!!

For your question, when I login to company x on instance one it should have customer window standard and modified and when I login to instance 2 it should have only one customer window which is default.   Is this possible at all.

Answer: Normally GP modified window/form is not related to instance. It is related to dictionary files. All the modified resource will save in particular location (you can find the modified forms and report path from DYNAMICS.SET file of your GP installed location.

Now I come to your question. To achieve this, you need to create 2 GP installed folder (Make a duplicate of original GP installed folder like "GP2013-MOD" ) and add two shortcut for each folder. In the standard folder, dont make any changes. And map the modified forms/reports dictionary path to DYNAMICS.SET file of new duplicated GP folder.

Then open GP with standard form using original GP shortcut to one instance, login with another instance with duplicated GP shortcuts.

Kindly let me know if you need any other helps.

    Hope this helps!!!

    Hi Soma,

I deleted the modified version of form.  I copied the main GP folder as modified and logged to GP from dynamics.set from that folder.  Made my changes on the modifier and given access to modified window and I can see the changes.  I logged into the original folder and logged into GP and still can see the modified form for the customer.  My scenario will be as follows.

GP will be accessed by all users for all companies through terminal server ( 2 servers load balancing).  For the new company I wanted to install GP on a separate terminal server and do all changes to customer window.  So when user login to this terminal will have the modified window.  I wanted both the original terminal server should hold only one window of customer and not modified.  All the the three terminal will be using same dynamics database.  Can anyone give a hand on this.

You need to change the FORMS and REPORTS dictionary path under the original DYNAMICS.SET for modified folder and keep the original for standard folder.

    Example:

For standard folder should be like below.

    :C:Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Dynamics/GP2010/Dynamics.dic

    :C:Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Dynamics/GP2010/Data/FORMS.DIC

    :C:Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Dynamics/GP2010/Data/REPORTS.DIC

For modified folder should be like below.

    :C:Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Dynamics/GP2010-MOD/Dynamics.dic

    :C:Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Dynamics/GP2010-MOD/Data/FORMS.DIC

    :C:Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Dynamics/GP2010-MOD/Data/REPORTS.DIC

Kindly ping/call me through skype if you have doubt for the same.

    Hope this helps!!!
