I would like to remove access to a field for Advanced Find searches and views

Let's say I have a field on the contact entity that contains sensitive personal information.  I would like to be able to restrict this field from advanced finds and views.  Is there a way to "hide" or remove a field from searches?  For obvious reasons, I don't want users to be able to include this field on an advanced find search and export to excel

Your best option is to enable field level security on those fields and add right people to view the data. This will take care of data integrity across the system like view, print, report ,fetchxml query and filtered views , export to excel. If user is restrict to access the field and if he tries to retrieve he will get null value . Just making field not avilable on the advance find does not make sense still user is able to create report to get the same data.

Field level security on that field.  A supported method using out of the box functionality

Field level security is definitely the way to go but just be aware that until Crm2015 you can only enable FLS on custom attributes.

    Hope this helps,

I wish it were as simple as using field security, unfortunately it is not an option, as it is vital that the users see and update this field on individual contact records.  The only thing I need to prevent is this field being viewable in an advanced find and exported.  Just think of the following scenario off the top of my head:

Data entry user needs to add sensitive info to contact records as part of their job.  Data such as DOB, SSN, etc. that may be vital to the sale.  A user then has the ability to create an advanced find with the following columns: Full Name, Address, DOB, SSN and export that list to excel. This is obviously a security concern.

    Hi,

then you can achieve it via code.

catch the retrieve multiple query and set the column to null

    see example here:

    Cheers.

Tal, Thank you, I like this idea.  Will this work for ad-hoc advanced find queries or only for saved views?

    Hi,

Since it works on Retrievemultiple it will work on views, saved views and advanced find queries.
