Integrating Payroll Employee Data into HR Module

(0) ShareShare

Hi:

Has anybody integrated an ADP CSV file containing basic employee information such as Name, SSN, Hire Date, Termination Date, etc. into the GP HR Module?  We have an integration tool that will integrate payroll data into the G/L, but I am wondering how we could populate basic employee data into the HR Module fields.

Do you have any suggestions?

 Thanks,

Jane

    Hi Jane,

Will this be a one time integration or on going?  Your best bet is to use the Integration Manager tool to import the file into GP.  This tool provides a relatively simple interface for mapping fields from the CSV file to GP and then running the import.  If this will be an on going integration, you may also want to look at the eConnect tool, although Integration Manager will also work well depending on the number of employees you are importing and updating.

Please post a follow up if you would like some more details.

    HTH,
    Mike

Hi, Mike - Thanks for your reply!

This will be a one time integration to get the basic historic HR-related data into Great Plains and then continue entering into the HR module as people are hired.  I guess the missing link in my mind is the "interface for mapping fields" that you mentioned.  I am not an IT person and it seems to me that we couldn't just take a CSV file filled with data and expect it to upload into the correct GP fields.  As you indicated it seems necessary to map the data.

I really am grateful for your help.  If you have any further details regarding the interface that would be great!

    Thank you!

    Jane

    Hi Jane,

You will need to talk to your Dynamics GP partner regarding obtaining the Integration Manager module.  It is a separate module for GP.

Integration Manager will allow you to setup and save the mapping so that you can repeat the import each time you download a new file from ADP without having to redo the mapping each time.  I should also mention that Integration Manager will only import the main masterfile information for an employee (basically anything on the Cards -> Payroll -> Employee window).  It will not import HR specific fields such as work history, position history, etc.  If you need to import additional information, you may need to have something custom written.

Let me know if you do need any additional HR info imported and maybe I can help you find another solution.

    Thanks!

Your problem can be resolved with Integration Manager. Your need to map the source file to the destination file and that will do the trick.

    Thank you, Mike:

We do have an integration routine for Great Plains A/P and G/L.  Therefore I guess we must have the Integration Manager Module (is that a correct assumption?)  The gray area in my mind is mapping the data and how that is done.  Do you have any information on how to do that?

    Thanks so much,

    Jane

    Thanks Woordy:

I believe I am stuck at the mapping stage.  Is there a way to map in in Great Plains?

I'm not really an IT person.

    Hi Jane,

Yes, that is a correct assumption.  Do you have Integration Manager installed on your PC?  (Start -> Programs -> Microsoft Dynamics -> Integration Manager -> Integration Manager).  If so, you can follow these steps and press F1 for help if you get stuck along the way.

    1.  Click on New Integration and fill in a name and brief description for the integration and click OK
    2.  Click on Add Source -> Text -> Define New Text
    3.  Type in a name and browse out to your CSV file from the button next to the File field
    4.  Specify Comma as the delimiter and check the box for First Row Contains Column Names if that is true.
    5.  Click OK
    6.  Click on Add Dest. -> Microsoft Dynamics GP -> Payroll -> Payroll Master
    7.  Double Click on Destination Mapping and select the mapping for each field.  Under the Rule column, choose Use Source Field if the data is in the CSV file and then click the "..." button when you click in the Source column to pick the column that corresponds with that data.

More info is available by pressing F1 inside of the program.  The context sensitive help is actually pretty good.

Good luck and let me know if you get stuck along the way!

    Jane,

I have developed Integration between ADP and Dynamics GP using eConnect. Employee Data,Paycodes,Deduction,Benefits and it does auto assigned Paycode,Benefits and deduction to employee.

In my Project client want to import detail salary information into GP.

Feel free to email me : sandipdjadhav@hotmail.com if you need any further information.
