Transactions deleted from HQ database

We had a major failure with one of our store servers on the evening of the 13Th. We got a new server up and running on the 15th and restored the backup from the night of the 12th to it.  When we put the tills back online the sales correctly uploaded to the store database.

We were not too worried about losing the sales info for the 13Th from the store database as it was already recorded in the HQ database.

However when i checked the HQ database today (Monday) the sales for that store for the 13th is no longer there. I thought it may be an indexing issue but looking at the actual sales transaction tables the data is gone.

I am assuming a maintenance routine run over the weekend did the damage but not sure what the fix is.

The maintenance routine run in SQL server  management studio does 5 things.

1. Checks Database Integrity

2. Reorganises the index

3. Backup database

4. Maintenance Cleanup task

5. Update statistics task

I have backups of the HQ database. Would there be a way of integrating the missing data back in or am i on the wrong track.

Thanks

Shane

The maintenance plan has nothing to do with the lost data, I actually have no clue how these transactions were lost from the HQ database. The good news is that we can get the lost transactions from your other HQ backups, but before doing so we need to understand how this happened to avoid facing the same scenario again.

My assumption is that you created a 401 worksheet with a "From" date equals to or earlier than the 13th, coz in this case the HQ server removes the transactions of the intended period then pull them again from the store database. I'm not 100% sure of this behavior so I need a confirmation of someone else

    Hi,

We did not manually create any new 401 worksheets as the scheduler was still creating them.

I have looked at the HQ backup i took immediately prior to putting the tills back online and it contains the missing transactions (IE Up to the evening of the 13th. As the 401 was based on the scheduler it would have  been the for FROM date just after the last 401.  For that store we run scheduled 401's every 15 min.

Looking at the first 401 worksheet that ran after i put the tills back online the from date was set for 15th Nov.

I did run a 250 to update the store database for all the item changes since the 12Th. There were no other types of worksheets run between the store going back online and identifying the missing transactions this morning.

    Thanks

Well, so regarding uploading missing data from the other backup, I can do the job for you if you want, just contact me at ahmed.hassan@rmsleaders.com, but I still prefer to know possible reasons for losing the data in this way

    Hi Shane,

What i understood from you is

You have restore the store database backup from 12th Night when you were having 13th data in HQ.

What happen when you restore the store Database from local backup is that when next transaction ID getting created in store database is already existing in HQ transaction table under same store ID. So when next 401 worksheet sync happens, it will override the HQ data under corresponding transaction ID.

When your HQ is updated with latest , always export the database from HQ not from local Back up.

Many thanks for that. Answer makes perfect sense but disappointed that our RMS support company did not know this prior to suggesting restoring.

The reason we did not export from HQ is because it was failing when we tried to and it left us no choice. Have not found out why yet.

    Thanks for your help.

    Shane
