Implement IFD but don't use the organisation url

Hi all,

We are currently looking into implementing IFD on our on-premise D365 (v8.2) environment.

I know the URL to access CRM externally will eventually be https://organisationname.domain.com

Unfortunately, the current organisation name in the CRM deployment is exactly the same as the external domain name, which will result in a less than ideal URL.

I also know that we can change the organisation name by re-importing the database, but I'm afraid that this will break several connections (CRM for Outlook clients, connectors to other IT applications, URL in user's browser favorites, ...).

So I would like to know if there is a way to use a different external URL (e.g. https://crm.domain.com) after IFD is implemented without changing the organisation name? e.g. CNAME DNS record, URL redirection, ...

I don't know if any of this will work with the ADFS authentication, so I'm hoping that anyone can give some insights about it.
