Will FRx run with SL2015?

Our company is preparing to upgrade to SL 2015 from SL 6.5.  I have been unable to locate any documentation on whether FRx will run with SL 2015.  Can anyone confirm if it will and if it so is FRx supported or unsupported at this version level?

Thank you.

RE: Will FRx run with SL2015?

As noted by others, FRx will run with SL2015 but it is not supported. We've had a couple of smaller customers that upgraded SL but chose to defer moving from FRx to MR, at least until their SQL server was upgraded. The requirements to run MR are higher than SL, so not all installations are in a position to move to Management Reporter. Customers may upgrade SL with the understanding that they will at some point need to run Management Reporter. Even with additional server memory, the report processing speed of MR2012 vs. the same report in FRx is slower, which has been an ongoing issue with MR.

The most frequent issue users deal with is 64 bit support, which FRx is lacking, but every instance where a 64 bit client was being used, manual creation of a 32 bit ODBC DSN on the client workstation has addressed the issue.

It is also my understanding that FRx will work with SL 2015 provided you have the latest service for FRx (SP12 if I recall).  I also believe the 32-bit restriction applies.  I have not actually tried this with any of my clients that use FRx.

I have migrated some of my FRx clients to Management Reporter.  The migration tool works very well and Management Reporter is, in many cases, a clone to FRx with several additional features (many which make it a better tool than FRx).  It is a bit of a bear to install (though FRx was rather picky as well) but works well once installed.

One warning however, Management Reporter works on a named user basis, not a simultaneous user basis so, depending on who was using FRx, you may need to have more Management Reporter licenses.  Microsoft provides a multiple of existing FRx licenses for Management Reporter to help with this.

FRx is unsupported for SL 2015.  I have heard others maintain it works, but you are at your own risk in trying.

I have used this as a way to force clients to embrace MMR 2012; it is much better now than when first released (assuming you run the latest CU).

We were wondering the same thing as we're working on an upgrade from 7 to SL 2015. We were advised that FRx, while no longer supported will operate on SL 2015 if you're using a 32-bit system. We're on a 64-bit so we're jumping to Management Reporter (which I'm told isn't too different from FRx anyway) and there are migration tools for existing reports.

Would't mind hearing from someone more versed in this topic, though, to confirm we're on the right path as well.
