I need, according to a Microsoft adviser, 15 Professional CALs and one Limited CAL.  After reading the 45 page document on CRM licensing http://download.microsoft.com/documents/en-us/dynamics/pricing/Dynamics_365_Enterprise_edition_Licensing_Guide.pdf I eventually found a link to another document http://aka.ms/kn26ux which has a chart but it’s for CRM 2016.  I think a Limited CAL translates to a Basic CAL in these terms but it seems that I can't buy the On Premise CALs at the moment.  I have not been able to make any sense of the Microsoft licensing documentation (I think it would be far easier to get the licensing right if I didn’t have to go on a training course to understand it) so can anyone translate my requirement into the current versions or point me to a website with a clearer explanation than the Microsoft one?

Thanks.

Even after the sales people finished talking to me I still don't have a clear answer, which I have come to expect when talking to sales people.

I suspect that CRM2016 was rebranded as CRM365 but it's hard to find any information about what the difference is.  Is there a straight answer out there?

The advisor has suggested you to go for 15 Professional CALs and One Basic CAL. It must be after taking all the details about your intended operations.

As you mentioned, Professional CAL is full access license (Sales, Marketing and Service areas) and Basic CAL is limited access license.

    Please go through:

Appendix A – Use Rights by Microsoft Dynamics CRM CAL

    in

Dynamics CRM 2016 On-Premises Volume Licensing and Pricing Guide

You can also refer the following link, for Dynamics 365 (on-premises and Online)

    technet.microsoft.com/.../hh699677.aspx

    (Download PDF: go.microsoft.com/.../p)

Dynamics 365 is not radically different.

Enterprise license (online) includes Professional License Plus Additional applications.

Please Contact one of the Microsoft Partners, to find out the suitable offering.

I'm talking to a new Sales person now and it seems that CRM2016 and CRM365 are different products.  The reason I can't find info about CRM2016 licensing is that Microsoft are supporting existing installations but all new ones are 365, which mine would have to be since I don't have an on-going agreement.

As far as the different types, our CRM is for Sales so I'm getting those for the Pro and the old style Limted/Basic translates to a Team Member licence.

It took a while but that's the 'less than 45 pages' version of the answer.
