HI BC Gurus,

Is it possible to have specific dimensions required for a document? Such as if I wanted to have specific dimensions on a customer card?

Thanks!

another way to achieve what you're looking for is to make dimensions mandatory or assign default dimensions to the entire customer table, in the Dimensions Page:

the only problem with doing the above is that it requires you have the same requirements or dimensions for all customers, you cant have it for a select group of customers only

For customers I would probably do a customization that check for dimensions every time I use the customer on a new sales order or sales invoice if you use that function in your system.

You could also have a similar check when you use the customer in a journal.

It depends a little on how you have defined your business processes.

What is best way to get an instant notification if a customer card does not have a dimension code attached to it?

This is the correct one (Gavin).

U will not get a notification instantly, but the users will get the error telling them to fill the dimension in the customer wich is the correct aproach in every case.

    Hi,

Just to add to the replies, you can also specify a default dimension on a table. This prevents users setting up a customer and forgetting to add a dimension. Using this method whenever you post a transaction for a customer a dimension is always required:

    Hope this helps.

For existing customers, you can use the Configuration Package to import the Default Dimension (352) table.

Then you will either have to do some AL customization or you need to implement an approval workflow for customers so they can not be used until someone have checked that they have the correct dimensions.

Then you can also implement permission so only selected users can modify dimensions for customers.

Almost what I had in mind.

I was thinking more along the lines of making it a requirement for all customer cards to include a dimension. In case there is no dimension then it will error out.

If you make the dimensions mandatory on the G/L accounts you use for postings then you will get an error when the dimensions is missing and someone tries to post something.

You could also create a Power Automate flow that warns you every time the customer template is modified.

Was it something like that you had in mind?

Great! This answers part of my question.

In the scenario a user removes the dimensions and forgets to add them back in a customer card, is there a way to notify us?
