Data Upgradation from AX 2012 to D365

Hi,

I need to know how does transaction data upgradation from AX 2012 to D365 works? What is the best approach? How we will upgrade transactional data? Let's say if AX 2012 is up and running and I take backup of a particular day and proceed with upgradation, it will definitely take some weeks until I make it error free. What will happen to the data (transactions) when upgradation was in progress?

Please advice the best solution.

If you need to migrate transactions, the database upgrade is your only option. You would of course test and iterate it many times before the actual cutover and golive.

But once you want to golive, you must complete the database upgrade during your cutover break. That should not take weeks for sure.

If you can live without old transactions, you can just migrate master data and opening balances using data entities, and start from a clean slate.

    Hello Hafiz,

Before considering the data upgrade you should clarify first what transactional data you want and need to upgrade to D365FO.

Do you need all historical transaction data in D365FO or only those of the last year?

What kind of transactional data do you need exactly?

I would recommend that you discuss those kind of questions first with your team mates.

Otherwise, you might have a lot of work with the migration of data nobody is really interested anymore.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

Can you please share some examples or any idea what kind of issues one can face in data upgradation. And the client has data for almost 8-10 years and they want to upgrade the whole. Let's say I want to upgrade only last 3 years, how can I limit it in upgradation?

    Hi Ludwig,

What can be the issues/challenges in data upgradation? And client has transactional data for 8-10 years and they want to take the whole to D365. If they agree to last 3-4 years' data, how can we limit it?

    thanks
