Hi there,
I am trying to run a database backup from the Maintenance menu in GP 10.0.
The module let me to create a backup schedule, but when I try to run an immediate backup, "Unknown error" comes out and nothing happen. Similar situation I got attempting a system database backup.
This is a fresh installation with GP10 1319 version running under SQL 2008 SP2.
With all users logged out it shows up same error message.
Thank you in advance for your help

Hi,
I realize this is an old post, but fyi, Dynamics is incorrectly defaulting to backing up to "..\Program Files\whatever" . That won't work due to Windows security.
Instead, manually edit the path to reflect "..\ProgramData\whatever" (note there's no space between Program and data). That will work. In GP v10, a simple and fast to type path I liked to use was "C:\ProgramData\MBS\DYNGP\Backup\<yourDBname>\".
Likewise, you could select any other path (except "..\Program Files\whatever") where you have sufficient permissions and it should work as well.
Regards . . .
Hola Gilberto,
Perhaps a silly question, but worthy for clarification, are you log as 'sa'?
Thanks
Jorge

From SQL Server Management Studio I am not getting any error backing up to that location.
Do you get the same error when you attempt to backup from SQL Server Management Studio to that location?
There is a SQL folder under GP directory. This is the complete path:
E:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP\SQL.
This is a 64bit machine.
By default the backup program points to the next location to keep the jobs:
E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Backup
I just found out that in this location I get the "Unknown error" every time I attempt to make an immediate backup and
in other location (in databases partition) the backup is succesful.
Thank you for your support
On the GP server client, there is usually a folder under your GP installation called SQL. If this directory is not present, you may receive the error you are reporting. Try backing up the data from the GP server itself. If this works, then you are missing the SQL folder under your GP installation folder on your TS. You can whether this is something you want to do for your TS environment as copying this folder would add server capabilities to this environment.
No, they are in different paths.
Do you have the SQL directory under your GP installation on TS?
Mariano,
I am using Terminal Services and I am logged as Administrator user.
Thank you
