GP reports and forms Dictionaries/customizations in web client

Posted on by

Hi All,

I have upgraded GP to version 2018 and my question is, how do you pull the customization package to each of users web client in order to avoid dictionary errors?

Does GP web client allows the pulling of individual's customization??  and how??.

    Hi Mark

I would get this reported to Microsoft as there is obviously something wrong there.

Here is a question, did you try IE? It is probably still installed on your machine.

Well, I answered my own question.  I was using Chrome.  I then installed Edge and had the same result which is not surprising since I believe it uses the Chrome engine.   I had success after installing FireFox and using that.  The barcodes printed without issue.

    Thanks,

    Mark

I know this post is a bit old but related to the issue, I have reports using barcode fonts that print fine from the Dynamics GP client on the Web Client session host machine.  However, the barcode font is not displayed when printing the report from the Web Client, the corresponding alphanumeric value is.  What is interesting is that if I copy and paste the value from the report printed to screen to a Word doc, the barcode is being displayed.  Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Anything that exists in the Forms.dic or Reports.dic files (other than VBA customizations) in the Dynamics GP client on the Web Client session host machine will be available in the Web Client.  You can log into that GP client just like any other desktop client and import package files for modified objects.  There is no need to reinstall Web Client.

If you have a requirement for groups of users to each have different modified objects you could redo your Web Client install to use Tenant Services.  Then setup a tenant, including a path to a different Dynamics.set file for each, for each group of users who need the same modified reports.  If a user only belongs to one tenant then the login process isn't any different than the normal Web Client.  This wouldn't really be viable if every user has their own custom reports though.

    Thanks David,

Does it mean that if I customize an additional form or a report with a report writer it wont be viewed unless I re-install web client.

David Musgrave answers your question well, however did not address the 'pulling of individual customizations'

To which I believe the answer is 'web client runs off a shared folder' and therefore individual users can not have their own version of the Reports / Form Dictionaries as this is not ( at least I don't know how ) supported in the current version of the web client.

DM - please correct if wrong.

The Web Client runs off a shared installation folder and customisations installed there will be available.... Except VBA does not work.

FYI: GP Power Tools upcoming Build 28 has a Developer Tools module which can be used to replace VBA code AND is web client compatible.
