Hello everyone, I have a scenario where in a fixed asset has been used in a transaction base from the error log that shows up when you try to delete the Fixed Asset. The error message is "A financial dimension value is based on the <XXX> record and has been used on a transaction. You cannot delete the <XXX> record." The other log shows "The FixedAsset <XXX> is used in one or more transactions of the following types: Ledger cannot be deleted" These assets are not use by the client anymore. Is there a way on the UI or frontend to safely delete this? If it's not possible, I think this is not a best practice and other thing, is it safe to manually delete this on the backend? Thank you.
Hello,
Once a fixed asset is used in a transaction it cannot be deleted.
This is working as designed.
The suggestion would be to rename this asset. Options >> Record info
At a later date when you want to create a new asset for the same FA Group, you can consider using this again.
Thanks, Kaushik

Hi,
The first option is not possible, the second option is sometimes inevitable. I just wonder why does your client ask to delete these assets? despite they are not in use, they are historical data. I suggest firstly be sure on this way, and ask why. Probably to delete assets is not the only solution.
Regards.
Hi xppdev,
Can you tell if there were actual transactions made or if you intend to say that the errors are unexpected? Anyway, you will cause corrupted data if you try to delete the asset. You can then better think of hiding the asset with a saved view or customization.
Hi Aundre,
Before diving to customization. Is there a way to safely retire or dispose the used fixed asset in D365 FO?
You should ideally from an audit and system point of view NOT delete any master data which has transactional data attached to it.
Now firstly make sure these fixed assets (fa) have transactions by checking the value model and viewing transactions.
If it doesn't have transactions you can do what is mentioned here to delete the actual fixed asset.(since its a bug)
https://ashdynamicsax.wordpress.com/2017/10/04/post18-cannot-delete-fixed-asset/
Else if there are actual transactions then go to each asset and set the value model status as suspended.
For info on the various status of fa check the below link.

Also I'm assuming that there is no net book value for any assets so they should all total to 0. Else if not 0 that means there is a value sitting in the asset. If that's the case you need to get rid of it by an adjustment before you suspend it.
Hello Ashwin,
Thanks for your reply. How can I check the transactions related to the FA? I have checked the Fixed Assets > Fixed Assets > Books > Transactions and it is empty. As I am not a functional person, maybe this FA has been used on a financial dimension maybe on a Customer or Vendor? What are the other transactions that I need to verify just to be sure that it does not have any transactions?
in AX 2012 R3 it was under FA>value models however now in d365 "Fixed asset value model + depreciation book = Books"
So go to FA>FA>FA and then click on the asset you want to check and click the Books icon.
Then click on the Transactions button.
You can also just run the "FA>Inquiries and reports>Inquiries and reports" and filter for the given FA ids.
regarding search well you may need to search within the tables of D365 using a tool like "Table Browser Caller" in chrome extensions.
For ledger journals look in LedgerJournalTrans for type/offset type as "Fixed Asset" + LedgerDimension/OffsetLedgerDimension as "ASSETID#" and search for only non posted.
For Purchase orders look PurchLine filter for "AssetId" field
That error message is misleading. If the Asset has financial dimensions assigned to it, even though it never had any transactions on it, you'll get this message when you try to delete the asset. If this is in a PROD environment, you'll need a Microsoft ticket to have them run a script to delete the meta data associated with the asset dimensions to enable deleting it.
