GP2010 & SSRS Reporting

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 35

Good afternoon,

We're currently using GP2010 for our Finances (but not much else) and we've built some custom drill down reporting to allow business managers to track their spending against their budgets. These are very basic and allow a manager to chose their budget see how their spending in each account code against the budgets they have.

So for example, I would go to the reports site and choose:

  • "Corporate Services" then
  • "Information Technology" then
  • "Web"

At this point I'd see each account code (see below) along with Actual, Budget & Variance:

  • Salaries & Allowances
  • Contractors
  • Agency Staff
  • Web Content
  • Web Systems
  • etc.

Clicking on the account code, shows a further screen listing the transactions against that Account Code.

It's a good system, the only aspect it's lacking is some roll-ups for graphical dashboard reporting, so the executive can see how each business division is doing against it's budget, etc.

We're now in the process of replacing our current reporting platform with SRSS 2012, from what I read online GP2010 supports SRSS reports and indeed comes with some reports out of the box.

What I'm curious to know is if any of these out of the box reports support the kind of functionality described here or are we looking at doing some custom report development? Alternatively are there any 'report packs' available to be purchased for third parties that provide these kind of functions?

Any advice you could provide would be most appreciated.

Regards,

JD

    Hi JD,

Out of the box reports don't have anything that matches what you've described.  I typically see Management Reporter (or FRx) for comparing financials to budgets.   SSRS is perfectly capable of doing the reporting you want, but is probably less flexible for changes.

    Hi Trevor,

Thanks for your response, I've been reading about Business Portal for SharePoint and I'm wondering if that would provide any of the functionality we would need?

    Regards,

    JD
