GP 2016R2 Bank Transactions Removal

One of the new features in GP 2016R2 is the ability to move reconciled transactions to history.  So I've been testing this out and have run into an odd issue where, on the Bank Balance window you cannot drill down to the transaction if it's in history. No error, no message.  It looks like nothing happens, but something does.  I looked at the source code and SQL procedure that builds the temp table and I'm convinced that the code for the Zoom button is not correct, but I'm also not sure because I'm wondering if could be something in my data. I'm just having a hard time believing that they'd make such an obvious error.

So, what happens on that window is that a stored procedure (cmPopulateHistCheckBalanceTemp) builds a temp table from the CM Transaction and CM Transaction History table.  According to the stored procedure, Transactions get a HISTINDX of 0, Historical Transactions get a value of 1.  On the GP window, the Zoom button looks for a HISTINDX of 2.

Has anyone tried to clear reconciled transactions and run into a problem drilling down on historical bank transactions?

    Bill,

I was able to repro this as well.

I used Fabrikam data (I know, not the best quality) and ran a reconcile for UPTOWN TRUST for 12/31/14. Once I had reconciled transactions, I moved them to history then tried the Checkbook Balance Inquiry window.  Zooming on transactions moved to history produces a 'Document no longer exists in originating module' error, while transactions not moved to history successfully drills into the transaction.

You are probably not maintaining history in Bank Rec. This is a new option for 2016R2. If you are not, when you clear reconciled transactions, the transactions are deleted, if you are, they're moved from the CM_Transaction (CM20200) to the CM_Transaction_History (CM30200) table.

Thanks Bill - I am maintaining history in Bank Rec (the box was checked by default in 2016 R2) and I do have records in CM30200 for records other than voids. But Fabrikam did have some records that were not associated properly.

I ran a reconcile process again for newer records (01/01/16-03/31/16) then moved them to history and I am NOT SEEING THE ISSUE YOU REPORT.

OK, but if you're seeing records in the CM30200 and you're keeping, how come it's telling you the transaction does not exist? It sounds like a similar problem but not exactly the same message. If you're maintaining history, you should be able to drill-down to the historical transaction.  Microsoft added new code so that you could do that.  I'm looking at a transfer. Maybe that's the difference and why you're getting a message, I'm not.  Reconcile a Bank Transfer, move it to history and see what happens.

My original post was due to old (bad data) records in Fabrikam.

Here are my new test scenarios and results with fresh transactions (bank rec history turned on in all cases):

    1. Bank Deposit (with receipts) - can drill in Checkbook Balance until Reconciled Trx Maintenance is run, then get 'Document no longer exists in originating module' message.

    2. Bank Deposit (without receipts) - can drill in Checkbook Balance until Reconciled Trx Maintenance is run, then get 'Document no longer exists in originating module' message.

    3. Checks - can drill in Checkbook Balance even after Reconciled Trx Maintenance is run.

    4. Bank Transfer Out - can drill in Checkbook Balance until Reconciled Trx Maintenance is run. After process is run there is no response - No error, No drilldown window opens, just crickets.

    5. Bank Transfer In - can drill in Checkbook Balance until Reconciled Trx Maintenance is run. After process is run there is no response - No error, No drilldown window opens, just crickets.

    6. Bank Adjusting Entry (transaction created during reconcile process) - can drill in Checkbook Balance with all information appearing (header and detail) until Reconciled Trx Maintenance is run. After process is run the drilldown window opens, but header info is blank. Grid area shows distributions and distribution reference.

I did NOT run SQL traces or look at stored proc behavior.

    Clearly something is amiss here.

PS - In all cases there are corresponding records in CM30200, but results for the drilldown vary after running Reconciled Transaction Maintenance and seem to be tied to what type of transaction was originally posted.

Your #5 confirms my conclusion that there's a discrepancy between the HISTINDX column in the stored proc and GP UI. Maybe Microsoft will read this post and confirm the results too.  The only fix is to manually alter the stored proc, though that's normally not something I would recommend.

I've updated the SQL code and will attach the file to a similar post on the GPUG community website, in case anyone else runs into this issue, but can't here, since this doesn't allow attachments.

Thanks Bill. Did you post it as a bug in MSConnect too?

    Yes.
