Phone/Fax format not fit for long numbers

Our Dynamics GP 10.0 (SP4) was installed with country selection = Singapore, so GP phone format will be (XXX)XXXX-XXXX Ext XXX
so it has total of 11 digits and 3 digits for extension.
However, if the entry for phone numbers exceeding 11 digits -- then it will truncated or remove some digits.
Please advise how can we enable GP 10 to be able to capture long phone or fax number ?

 

(Assuming  X and Y is representing numbers, and A is referring to Area code, P = provider code, so all those are in numbering)


Current format   : (XXX)XXXX-XXXX Ext XXX

Malaysia         :  +60-A-XXXX-YYYY  (no problem, no missing digit)
Format Result :  (60A)XXXX-YYYY Ext 000

China             :  +86-AAA-XXXX-YYYY
if try to fit in    :  (86A)AAXX-XXYY Ext 000  (missing last 2 digits)

India            :  +91-PP-AA-XXXXYY
if try to fit in  :  (91P)PAAX-XXXY Ext 000   (missing 1 last digit)


The database is running Microsoft SQL 2005 Standard edition.

    William,

    You would have to use the Modifier module to do this.

    The Phone Number fields in Dynamics are set to 14 characters keyable length but that can be set to 21 with Modifier (storage size in database is 22 characters).  This is one of the few fields in Dynamics that the keyable length is set to less than the maximum size (the other I can think of is State).

    While you are changing the keyable length of the field, you can remove or change the format.  Currently it is set as you show but you can remove the format entirely or change it to fit your needs.  Most customers I think just remove the format entirely but you can set it as you desire.

    HOW TO SET REPORT FIELD TO INVISIBLE WITHOUT USING VB EDITOR

    Many thanks to Patrick, however we do not prefer to use the Modifier just because of this long phone number. Anyway, the requirement is only at SOP invoice documents -- long phone numbers are affected in customer master file.

    So, we are going the use the two User-Defined fields (string).

    Could you please advise, if all other customer phone & fax numbers are maintained as usual fields in the customer master, but as for some customers with long numbers will be kept in the User Defined Fields (phone & fax).

    Then the next problem is the printout to show this User-Defined fields are placed in the same location of the Phone & fax filed in the SOP modified form, and it will be showing "only if" it is not empty, and it will hide the normal phone & fax fields.

    In other words, the usual fields for phone and fax and the User-Defined fields are in the same location of the SOP invoice. and HOW DO I set either one of them to invisible without using Visual Basic Editor.

    hi, there is a hide when empty function in report writer, but i will go with patrick's vb resolution.

    Thank you so much for your reply, however, i still having difficulty to find the function that can hide the empty field. Even though I have checked all the RW_.... FUNCTION(...)

    Hi William.

    I recommend you use Extender to add your international format phone numbers.

    You can use the Short String format and include a mask for the field.

    This information can then be linked to you SOP windows and SOP documents easily and you will avoid having to re-enter with again every SOP document.

    Forgot to mention - the Extender window should be linked to either the Customer mainenance if only 1 per account or the Customer addresses if it could change by location with the auto open feature so you don't forget.
