Security settings for monthly close/GL posting

Posted on by 75

We are required to restrict posting to the GL and the month-end/year-end close to only a Controller in order to be SOX compliant.  We are having trouble finding the correct security setting to modify.

We are currently running GP 7.5.  Can you give me any assistance on where to located this security setting?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Have you tried to restrict access to posting screens as well as restrict access to the reports. Both can be done in User Security.

I am not sure what more I can provide you with.  The way to stop users from opening and closing financial/fiscal periods is to deny them access from the window which controls periods.

I gave you the paths (in a previous response) to follow using Advanced Security either by menu or by dictionary.  If you want to use Standard Security then the path will be similar the by dictionary path.

By Menu >> Setup >> Company >> Financial Periods

By Dictionary >> Great Plains >> Forms >> Company >> Financial Periods Setup

    Hope this helps

Re: Security settings for monthly close/GL posting

Maybe  I'm  not asking the correct question here.  I know where and how to change the security settings for both a user and a user class.  The trouble I'm running into is that I don't know what the exact switch is that needs to be modified within the security settings in order to restrict certain users from closing a financial period.

i.e.  Once you have selected the user and company under the security section, what product, type, series, and access control do I modify to make sure that user can or cannot close a financial period?

I hope this explains it more clearly.  Thank you again for your help.

To access Advanced Security go to Tools >> Setup >> System >> Advanced Security.

To access Standard Security go to Tools >> Setup >> System >> Security.

For more information on Advanced Security look at the following Knowledge Base article:

David, Thanks for your response.  I've located the fiscal periods setup window, however, that will only allow me to open or close a period.  I am not sure how to get to Dictionary, etc. can you point me in the right direction?  Thanks.

You can use Standard or Advanced Security to control access to the Financial Periods Setup window.

By Menu >> Setup >> Company >> Financial Periods

By Dictionary >> Great Plains >> Forms >> Company >> Financial Periods Setup
