Locations in Purchase Orders and Production Orders

Hi:

If you have a default Location Code specified on the Vendor Card, will this Location appear on that Vendor's Purchase Order for an Item?

If you have a default Location Code specified on the Customer Card, will this Location appear on that Customer's Production Order for an Item?

If the answer is "no" to both, then how do Location Codes default into Purchase Orders and Production Orders other than through creating Stockkeeping Units?

Thanks!

John

    Hi John,

I believe you'll need to create custom logic to set the default value when a new line or document is created. However, for the production order, I think it's all based on the routing, SKU, and the location on the customer card where the order is moved.

    Thanks
    Ramesh

You do not need custom logic.  This is all standard Business Central.

Location set on the Vendor becomes the Location set on a Purchase Order for that Vendor, when manually creating a Purchase Order.

Location set on Item's Demand source becomes Location set on Purchase Order when using Planning (assuming a Reordering Policy is established for the Item).

Location set on the Customer becomes the Location set on a Sales Order for that Customer, when manually creating a Sales Order.  The Sales Order becomes the Item's Demand Source and sets the Location for the Production Order, either if created from the Sales Order or via Planning (IF the Item has a Reordering Policy established).

If you have multiple Locations, it is strongly encouraged to use Stockkeeping Units to establish Planning Parameters.  If you aren't using Planning, then it doesn't matter as much.
