Error When Using Decimal Values in 'Quantity per' for Assembly Orders

When we try to post an assembly order with a decimal value in the 'Quantity per' field (for example, 0.6), we receive an error message:
'Reserved Qty. (Base) must be reduced'.

If we change the 'Quantity per' to 1, we are able to post the assembly order without issues.

Has a new, hidden functionality been introduced in version 26 that someone out there knows about?

Thanks.

    Hello,

Can you please share the screenshot of your unit of measure code table from Assembly order page?

Also please check if there's any reservation that doesn't match your decimal quantity, If there’s a reservation that's rounding to a whole number, you'll need to manually adjust or delete it.

    Thanks

Error When Using Decimal Values in 'Quantity per' for Assembly Orders
    Hello,

We have used BC for 4 years and have had zero problems regarding Unit of Measure. The Quantity Rounding Precision is generally blank on every item number.

I did a simple test and there is no error in posting in BC26.1. From the error message, it is a problem with Reservation. You can check the settings in this area.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

Error When Using Decimal Values in 'Quantity per' for Assembly Orders

We’ve now gone through the suggested solutions, but we’re still experiencing issues.

It appears everything works as expected when we enter a value of 1 or higher in the "Quantity per" field. However, values below 1 – for example, 0.6 – result in an error.

We’ve tested with decimals above 1 (e.g., 1.5 or 4.99999), and everything processes without any issues.

Do you know if there’s a setting that could be restricting values below 1 in this field?

    Thanks

This might be helpful for resolving your issue:

The error occurs because Business Central performs quantity validation differently when using decimal values in assembly orders. Here's what you need to know:

    1. Base Unit of Measure Check:

    • BC validates that the total reserved quantity (in base units) must be a whole number

    • When using 0.6 in 'Quantity per', the system calculates fractional base units

    1. Solution Options:

      • Round your 'Quantity per' to whole numbers where possible

      • Adjust your item's base unit of measure to accommodate decimal quantities

      • Check if you have any new reservation policies enabled in v26

    2. Version 26 Consideration:

    • While no hidden functionality was officially introduced, v26 did enhance inventory precision controls

    • Verify your reservation entries (Item Tracking Lines) for any fractional quantities

    Reference: Assembly Order Quantity Validation

If this resolves your issue, please mark this answer as verified. For more complex scenarios, consider consulting with a Microsoft Partner.

The soultion could be you add 0.01 to the rounding presion, on the item card

    hope this works,

Strange the behavior, get on a Ess BC ver, as this field is not on the item card page, on for the premium, its thier.

Then you need to use Cinfig Pack to update

Error When Using Decimal Values in 'Quantity per' for Assembly Orders

Many thanks for all the great suggestions you have provided. For the sake of clarity, I would like to report back with what finally solved our problem.

All our own customizations had been uninstalled, and we had also uninstalled purchased extensions in order to troubleshoot the issue — all without success.

The simple solution came when it became possible to upgrade from 26.0 to 26.1. After the upgrade, all problems disappeared like snow in the sun. We therefore conclude that there was a bug in the software.

We struggled with this issue for about 4 weeks before it was resolved. It would have been helpful to have a more direct approach to Microsoft in order to clarify where the problem was and what the expected timeline for a resolution might be. This was sorely missed in this process.

Could you please share your Platform and Application version?
We are having the same issue.
