Dear Team,

I'm trying to set a dimension filter on a column definition to show a combination of dimension set where a certain dimension value equal to blank using the empty brackets, for example column B dimension filter "+A_Type = [A], B_Activity = [B], C_Brand = [ ]" and column C dimension filter ""+A_Type = [A], B_Activity = [], C_Brand = [C], but the report is not showing any data.

My environment is,

AX R3 CU8

Management reporter 2012 Ver. 2.1.12000.26

    Hi Mohamed Kamel,

Do you only have those three financial dimension values (A, B and C) or do you have hundreds of financial dimension values?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwing,

Thanks for the quick response, I have 9 dimensions in total, each have like 10-100 values, but I created and using a dimension set for these three dimensions.

    HI Mohamed Kamel,

Have you tried adding a space value in between the square brackets [ ] to get the blank dimension values filtered?

If this does not work out, can you create

    - a first column that includes all values. That is, no filter is applied

    - a second column that includes all dimension values that you are using, so your financial Dimension values A, B, C, and so on

    - a third column that calculates the difference between the first and the second one

If the first and second column are classified as non-printing columns you can get the Transactions with a blank financial dimension value in the third column that is printed, i.e. included in your report.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

I tried all possible solutions to define the blank dimension value with no luck, adding hidden columns will be very difficult as I have quite big number of columns and rows.

BTW, I tried to apply the same concept on the row definition level where it worked fine when define it with the link to financial dimension column.

I do appreciate if there are other suggestions.

    Hi Mohamed Kamel,

The official MS MR-Blog says exactly what you found.

    blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../reporting-on-a-blank-dimension

Applying this approach means that you at least double the number of rows that you have.

    Would that be an option?

If so, including those blank financial dimension values in a specific colum could then be realized through the column restriction functionality.

What do you think about this approach?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

I refereed to the same link which guide me in the blank value concept, but as explained, the main issue in my report that it has many rows "P/L account" and many columns "stores" and it will be very hard to use multiple col/row to apply the required filter.

Thanks for your keen response and hope to find a way to apply the blank values on columns filters.

FYI, I tried to change the calculation priority to be col - row but didn't work as well :(

    Hi Mohamed Kamel,

What might help - at least a bit - to accelerate the set up process is preparing the row / column definitions in Excel.

There you can quickly prepare your lines and columns and copy+past that set up back to MR.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
