Unsubscribe address

I set up a test marketing list consisting of myself in order to test the unsubscribe functionality in a quick campaign.  When I clicked the unsubscribe link, I ended up sending a message to myself, which clearly had no effect on actually unsubscribing me from the mailing list.  That is, the unsubscribe link resolved to mailto:harold@mycompany.se

I am guessing that somehow I must have given my own address as the sender in CRM.  Obviously, this is not the desired behavior.  How can I set an appropriate sender in CRM to make sure that the unsubscribe requests are received and acted upon?

 Kind Regards,

Harold

Hi Harold, To set a particular owner/sender for campaign activities, you need to select "Assign to Another user or queue" option and select the proper user/queue. The user/queue to which the emails are assigned to at the time of quick campaign is the one that is set as the sender of the email.  Hence, whenever unsubscribe link is clicked on any email, the sender will be the one selected here.

    Hope this helps!

CRM does not handle auto-unsubscribe out of the box.  One must either write a workflow or purchase a third-party application such as Exact Target.  This is a case of Microsoft supporting the developer network by not including obvious functionality.

    Hi Harold,

If you add the Unsubscribe link to the Quick Campaign email, when the receiver of your clicks the link and sends the mail back to you, this email in CRM will automatically set the "Send Marketing Materials" option on the Account/Contact record to No.

Make sure that the unsubscribe email that has come back to your CRM has properly resolved to the appropriate contact/account. If the email address shows up as unresolved, the auto-unsubscribe will not work. We have tried to explain the flow here.

    Hope this helps!

Microsoft’s own documentation even states that there is no out-of-the-boxsolution for automatic unsubscribe.    Here is an excerpt:
Once an unsubscribe reply is received, currently you must manually update the donotsendmm property on the parent customer to No. It is possible that a plug-in for the workflow using the SDK could be created to automatically update the appropriate setting to turn off newsletter subscription for a customer. But no out-of-the-box solution is currently available.
As I said, I think it would be better for Microsoft to clearly state that auto-unsubscriberequires either writing code to do the processing for the unsubscribe, or buying a third-partysolution such as Exact Target which does it.

Does anyone else have an unsubscribe add on beside Exact Target?

    Hi Katie,

We have a relatively inexpensive component (free if you are our client ;-) ) that tracks emails reads, links clicked on, and has an unsubscribe option:
