Registering Serial number at RAF through SFC, registers 1 quantity

Posted on by 28

Hello all,

Client is Batch manufacturing, with Auto Batch numbering set on the Finished good item card. They have a requirement to register serial numbers at report as finished through shop floor control, for each container they decant product into. For example, they produce a batch volume of say 300 litres. At report as finished, they then manually generate a serial number for each container they fill, in this case 3 (100 litre containers). I have set up Batch and serial # on tracking dimension, and am successful in auto generating the batch # and manually creating the serial numbers at RAF. However, once I report as finished via shop floor control, the quantity assigned to each serial number is 1. I am looking for a solution for the system to allocate 1 serial number per 100 litres for example. Where do I set up logic for D365 to divide the volume OR for the user to allocate volume per serial number registered? Or is this determined elsewhere within the system? The container size may vary thus manual generating of serial numbers is required. TIA

    Hi Danny.

Thank you for your prompt response. I believe your suggestions have validated our solution and will assist in solving the requirement. We will propose LP control as first, we were concerned about nested LP's, however we will investigate any ripple effects. Many thanks again.

    Hi Shaun,

I am afraid that without customisation there is no such configuration for serial, . There is configuration to generate a LP number for each drum or, if you use catch weight, the generate a catch weight tag for each handling unit of measure "drum" of a nominal quantity of 100 liter unit of measure. Where Drum is the CW quantity and L is the invenrory unit of measure..

Alternativeley, could that drum item be considered to have its own base or inventory unit of measre of 1 drum?  If so, you would be able to assign that 1 drum its own serial number and have your formulas use 100 l or RM for every drum decanted.  But the inventrory UoM would have to be 1 ea, 1 drum, 1 un, etc.  Having the UoM being liters would not allow to have the same serial number for 100 x 1 liter.  That drum item description could read "xxx in 100 liter drum" manufactured and sold in drums..
