Unhandled Exception configuing MR for GP

I am trying to get Management Reporter set up on our server. I have MR installed, but when I try to configure GP to work with it, I keep getting "Unhandled Exception win32" and a random numbered error code. 1680, 5764, etc... I haven't seen the error code be the same twice.

There is no way I have mistyped my password that many times. I'm connecting to SQL server 2008 running GP 9. I am logging in as "sa". If I click on "Encrypt Connection" or try to use the database dropdown, the program gives this error and bombs.

Any help is much appreciated.

Management Reporter does not work with GP 9. You need to be on GP 2010.

Visual Studio shows the following:

Unhandled exception at 0x77e4bef7 in MRConfigurationConsole.exe: 0xE0434352: 0xe0434352.

I have tried different logons, using both the server name and the instance name withoput success.
