Automatic Creation of Invoice from a Posted Work Order? Dynamics 365 Field Service

This seems to be elementary, but for whatever reason, I cannot get an invoice to fire off.  We are pulling together a demo for some pre-sales stuff and would really like to have this invoice auto create.

I have the setting to auto create invoice set to when WO is Posted, and I have set the WO status to Closed - Posted.

Anyone else having this issue?

In Out of box, functionality is Create WO and then a button will start appearing on the WO form named as 'Create Invoice'. So, for Pre-sales activity, I would recommend to show them Out of box functionality and let them know that it can be achieve without clicking on that button by Plugins or workflows. Thanks.

    Hi Zohaib,

Thanks for the quick reply.  I have gone through the Imagine Academy trainings on Field Service, and spent a number of hours testing, but there is no button for "Create Invoice" on a work order like there is on a Regular order.

My flow is Opportunity > Work Order > Invoice.  And for whatever reason, the invoice WILL NOT get created.

Am I missing something?  Like I said in my original post, I set the WO status to Closed - Posted and expected an invoice to be created, but no invoice is created, and there is no button to create one on the Work Order form.

As you can see in the screenshot, here is a WO, which has no "Create Invoice" button.  This is a WO that I created from an Opportunity (Convert to Work Order button).  I have tried all statuses, made sure the bookings were complete, pushed the WO through the entire visual/business process as well.

I am on the phone with Microsoft support now trying to get to the bottom of this.

I just wanted to let you know, I have spoken with Microsoft support about this, and there is no out of the box way to generate an invoice in an on demand fashion.  The only way to do this is through the invoice setups - which means, at best, you can generate an invoice 1 day in the future.

It does look like a workflow exists to create the invoices, but it is not on the Work Order or Opportunity entity - it is on some other entities that join WO or Oppty  to Invoice (if I recall).  This WF goes off every night around 9PM.  You can de-activate it, and set it to be able to be run on demand, but you will still need to find the 'other' record to run the WF off of, not directly off the Oppty or Work Order.

I hope this helps.  It does seem kind of silly that they don't have an on demand invoice generator - but I assume that will be coming in a future release of this module.

Hi, you probably already know it but I just want to make sure other people find the answer if searching on the web and this community.

Here is the parameter to post the invoice automatically after Work-Order is closed.

    docs.microsoft.com/.../configure-default-settings
