Variances created from Inventory Stock Counts

Is there a reason why the variances created from stock counts use $0.00 for negative quantities instead of the current cost?

In Fabrikam I did a stock count on the item PEN in location WAREHOUSE and only counted 2 which created a variance of -1. When the variance was created the quantity was negative 1 but the unit cost is $0.00.

On the same variance if I add PEN again for another -1 it pulls the cost of $3.99.

Negative qty variance will be based on FIFO cost and that's the reason for this.  You can see the amount after posting or print edit list.
