Entity Store security

Hi,

Wanted to ask, can we control the security on entity store? E.g. like certain user can only access to certain cube or measurement?

I know the analytical workspace can control based on menu item, what if I had created a PBIX file and upload to LCS then deploy to D365. 1 of the user create its own workspace and add the PBIX file in it. This user supposed not allow to access it.

I can't find anything related to entity store in Privileges.

Thanks.

Regards,
Teh

    Hi Teh,

In case you have data in the entity store, there is no option from within Dynamics 365 F&O to secure that (externally stored) data.

Are you using the entity store? Or are you using BYOD or a Data Lake?

    Hi Andre,

I'm referring to standard entity store, not the BYOD or data lake.

So can I said that the entity store, there is no way can control from D365 security setting? The only way is using analytical workspace with menu item?

    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Teh

    Hi Teh,

There are separate security option in Power BI and indeed within Dynamics 365, it is then managed by privileges on menu items and form controls. An analytical workspace is one complete Power BI report. The contents of this report is not securable with F&O security.

    Hi Andre,

I'm not quite understand what you meant by separate security option in Power BI and within D365 and managed by privileges on menu items and form controls.

My questions is, if I'm using Embedded Power BI, is that possible to control the access right of the measures or cubes be used by certain user?

Let's say IT created this Demo.pbix and deployed from LCS. As a user, I'm able to create my own workspace and I can add it into my workspace like below.

But in fact, I shouldn't have the access right to view the content in Demo.pbix file. So is there any way that can prevent me to view the contents such as secured by measures or cubes?

    Thanks.

    Teh

    Hi Teh,

A pbix file contains data and reports. Before creating and distributing these files, you should think of what to include and how to secure it. The next post explains about record-level security. Dynamic Row Level Security Made Easy for Beginners (powerbiconsulting.com)
