How to integrate D365 CRM with Azure blob storage?

Hello CRM World,

I am planning to reduce my database size (as part of cost cuttings) by moving all existing and future email attachments, notes attachments to azure blob storage. I already explored the possibilities and found few options: Azure logic apps, plugin code, Attachment management (3rd party tool by microsoft labs at free of cost).

Can you please advice me the pros and cons of each method mentioned above and also provide me an in detail info of how to achieve this integration using all of the above methods? Appreciate if you can provide me an article or blog which explains clearly how to achieve this integration.

FYI i tried using Attachment management (an external tool). Though it worked fine for all newly incoming email and notes, but it failed to move existing email attachment (Over 50000 email records constituting 25 GB) as it threw plugin timeout error. Any advices on how to move existing email attachments (quite a large number) to azure blob storage?

Thanks in advance

    Hey Sandeep,

This is the tool about which i mentioned in my post. It works well for all future email attacments but as i told before my attachment table is around 25 GB large. If i try to move all the existing attachments to azure blob, it is throwing error (may be because the attachment records count is 50000 and it occupies 25 GB) and i am unable to move all the existing attachments to azure blob.

Good Question. I know sharepoint has got few added advantages over azure blob like security and version control. But my boss is inclined towards azure blob storage and another reason is being cheaper than sharepoint per GB.

If you have some suggestions on how to integrate CRM with sharepoint for managing email attachments, please do let me know so that i can convince my ppl and stick with sharepoint integration.

    Hi there,

You can also use this open source plugin : https://github.com/DawidPotgieter/Dynamics-CRM-Binary-Storage-Options

It includes a migration tool that you can use to migrate the existing attachments both ways, works on-prem and online.  Haven't had any issues and we have a few hundred GB worth of attachments :)
