A Production Order can have either a Work Center or a Machine Center on the Output Journal Line. You can only use a Resource when the Output Line is for an Assembly Order.
If you're interested in tracking a specific person's time against an Operation you would either set the person up as a Work/Machine Center or use an Extension for Time Collection. If you go with the later, I would suggest Shop Floor Insights from Insight Works as a good option.
