Checks got posted twice. Need to delete/void the duplicates. How do I do that?

Last week when our client was processing 2 term checks, his system re-started. When that happened, it posted the checks twice in employee maintenance. We have duplicate check #'s under Employee Check History. We need one of the check #s removed from these 2 employees.

What do we do?

Assuming it is too late to roll in a backup, I would void these checks and then process them again with the same check number. Did the posting to GL also get doubled?  You will need to temporarily flag the checkbook to allow duplicate check numbers. Also make sure that when you void the check, that both checks go and look at the corresponding posting journals to GL to make sure the void offsets what the original posting did. If all goes well these checks will simply be backed out and your payroll reports will be correct as well as all of your GL posting accounts.

I actually had this happen with a customer - part of our issue though was that bank rec also got updated twice but the GL was only updated once.  I contacted Microsoft and they basically sent scripts to run to remove the duplicate check from Employee Maintenance and Bank rec, because it wouldn't let us just void the duplicate.
