In Business Central v26, the option to disable automatic contact creation for customers and vendors has been removed. If Business Relation codes are used, contacts are created automatically; if removed, manual linking is not possible. This also leads to duplicate contacts when the same entity is both a customer and vendor.

Is there a way to prevent automatic contact creation while still allowing manual linking of contacts?

I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

You are right, if you removed Bus. Relation Code in Marketing Setup then you will encounter error when trying to run Link with existing > Vendor.

Since this is the standard behaviour and there is no option for it, you may have to customize to bypass it.

But I don't see a need to though, the auto creation is a Company Type Contact.
Typically, if you are using Contact module, you will likely be creating a Person Type Contact and link to the Company Type Contact as master.

Otherwise, you should follow standard practice where you start by a Contact then create Vendor & Customer from there which will be a better alternative.

    Hello ,
Not in standard v26. Microsoft’s current behavior is basically: if you want customer/vendor ↔ contact synchronization or linking, you must keep the Business Relation Code on Marketing Setup, and once that is set, Business Central can automatically create contacts from customers/vendors; if you remove the relation code, you also lose the ability to link a contact with an existing customer/vendor manually. So there is no standard setup now that gives you “no auto-create, but still allow manual link”. For the duplicate customer/vendor contact case, the standard workaround is to link the existing customer and vendor through one contact using Link with existing, or clean up duplicates by removing the wrong business relation / merging duplicates, but if you want to completely stop auto-creation while keeping manual linking, that would need customization.
