Hi,

I have run into a situation where I have to run a depreciation proposal for an asset where the value for that asset is in negative amount (-100,000).

I have tried runing the depreciation proposal with or without select that Fixed Assets. but not able to run the depreciation in either way.

any suggestion will be appreciated.

Asif

    Hi Asif,

My company has a similar question.  We have a business need to enter a contra-asset with a cost basis less than $0.00.  Did you ever find any leads to make this possible?  If you have any information, we'd be interested in hearing about it.

I confirmed Dynamics GP does not allow entering a fixed asset cost basis less than $0.00.  When asked, Microsoft recommended we research a 3rd party solution and enter a product suggestion.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    We have a similar situation.

Our solution:  we flipped the accounts on the posting profile instead of entering a negative asset for these asset groups.

We specify the accum amort/depr account as the offset (which ends up being a debit), and specify the depreciation/amortization account as the primary account (which will create a credit entry instead of a debit expense if set up as the offset).

Same thing for the basis - when setting up the asset.  Use the contra account as your offset (creates a credit), and the primary account for the debit.

Assets are entered as positive values.

    Hope this helps :)

Thanks for posting this.  I am encountering a similar situation where we create negative assets for the non-refundable portion of deposits and then want to depreciate/amortize them over a SL method.   They have this functionality in JDE and were expecting to find it in AX2012.  How were you able to resolve this scenario?  I've heard from msft incident support that AX2012 does not compute depreciation proposal against a negative asset, and that the feature is 'working as designed', but I have heard many instances from customers where this is a common business requirement. Also, there are other ERP systems that perform this calculation.
