Setup of overlapping sales territories

We are new Dynamics CRM.  Our company has a number of product lines.  Each line has need for very different sales territory layout, but all are geographically based.  Some sales territories cover as small as a single city, and others cover multiple states.  Each customer may purchase from several of our lines and therefore not fit into a single territory, but in several territories.  Any thought on how to set this up?

    Hi Brandon,

    How many lines of busines do you have?  How do you track territories--do you use zip codes, proximity/gps coordinate, or is it more varied and random like city/region/state?

    We have about a dozen lines.  We track by zip.

    HI Brandon,

    So, one idea is to actually have 12 terrritory lookups on the Account or 12 lookups.  This is probably the simplest to implement.  But you also need to think about how you might keep the territories up to date.  Often we end up creating some sort of territory to zip look-up table (entity) and writing a plugin that keeps the Accounts up-to-date whenever a zip changes territory.  It would take a lot more discussion to archtect the right solution, but hopefully this gives you an idea of the direction you might need to go.

    I would use workflows to define the territories, correct?
