How to hide homepage activity pointer ribbon buttons?

Posted on by 70

Hi all,

Would really appreciate some advice - I am trying to clear some unused items from the OOB ribbons to keep from confusing some of our users when they adopt our new D365 system. I am using the Ribbon Workbench to hide buttons and it's working fine in forms but I'm having trouble hiding the activity pointer buttons on the home page. The buttons I'm trying to hide are pictured below:

And the hide actions I've used so far are here:

This hides the buttons fine in forms and when selecting a record in that homepage grid but I can't seem to hide them when first clicking on the grid. Do I need to edit the ribbon for a different entity/app? From the inspector the bar that I'm trying to edit is called "commandbar-HomePageGrid:activitypointer" but I can't find any reference to that in the ribbon workbench.

I'd really appreciate any advice and thanks for reading.

Hi Linn, I followed your directions for editing the XML and that sorted it out straight away. Thanks so much, you've been incredibly helpful with this - marked your answer as verified.

The new Appointment is the new button introduced in the Unified Interface and it is not available in the Ribbon Workbench tool yet.

According to the creator of the tool,  ScottDurowyou should see more of the buttons if you use the latest beta version.

If you have any issue with the tool, you can manually hide it by adding the following XML in the RibbonDiffXml of the ActivityPointer.

    • add Activity entity to the new solution
    • export
    • extract the solution.zip file
    • update the customization.xml
    • add the line as in the screenshot below
    • compress the files back into .zip file
    • import the solution

    Hi Linn,

Thanks so much, this has really pointed me in the right direction. I am now able to hide all the buttons I need apart from the Appointment one for some reason. I have all the same hide actions that you've illustrated above but the Appointment button still appears on my activity entity home pages - is there something I've missed?

    Thanks again.

First, you will need to add Activity (activitypointer) entity in the solution to hide those buttons.

Then, in the Ribbon Workbench tool, you can see those button at the Home page section and hide those new activity buttons (including the Appointment sub menu items). "Show Chart" button is one of the new buttons introduced in Unified Interface and I don't think you can hide it using the Ribbon Workbench tool.
