Challenges with Configuration Migration

We are facing weird challenges with data export functionality of the Configuration Migration.

1. Missing few records while import even if all records are present in the exported XML file.

We have 16 records in the entity and all of those are present in the exported XML file as well. However 8 records are not reflecting in the CRM after importing those

2. Exported data from configuration manager are is giving weird errors when used the package deployer to import the solution and data.

Can someone please help?

I am stuck in hosting my app on Appsource due to these issues.

Regards

Vrushali

Can you post more information about the 'weird errors' ?

And do you have any deduplication rules or synchronous plugins/workflows on the entity that could stop the import ?

    Hi Vrushali,

    1. This might be due to uniqueness condition were not configured while exporting the data.

Define the uniqueness condition for your data to be exported. To open a new screen, click Tools > Configure Import Settings. For each entity that you have selected to export, add the field or fields on which you want the records to be compared with existing records on the target system during the import. Select a field (Primary Field), and click Add Field

Configure import settings in Dynamics 365

    Can check this - https://nishantrana.me/2018/03/17/configuration-migration-utility-not-migrating-all-the-records-in-dynamics-365/

    2. Please make sure you are not referring a record in any other record which is not present in destination instance. For example- I have a contact record in source instance having owner set is Arpit, while in destination Arpit user is not present, in this case, this record will not be migrated.

    Hi Vrushali,

If the above solutions don't work, just cross-verify that you are using the right version of the Configuration Migration tool (targetting v9).

If you still face issues, i would recommend using the XrmToolBox (https://www.xrmtoolbox.com/)

They have a very useful plugin/addon called 'DataTransporter'.

Just make sure that you select the id field as well while using this.

    RE: Challenges with Configuration Migration

    Hi Arpit,

Thank you for the quick response.  I was selecting created by, owner  etc fields and these users were not present in the destination organisation. Based on your suggestion, I removed all such fields and unwanted relationships as well. Now Configuration Migration tool has verified the schema successfully.

Actually I am creating a package for App source and my package was not getting deployed due these issues. It seems I was missing some tags in import.config file. Have made the changes now and hoping that it works. Waiting for App source certification team to respond.

    Hi Shidin

Before posting the challenge here, I have cross verified the version , its 9.0. As I am using this for Appsource packaging, not sure if I can use DataTransporter. But Good information. Let me check out more details about it.
