Update stage and status of Inactive opportunities through Data import
    Hello AS-20031619-0,

You're encountering a common challenge when trying to bulk update inactive records in Dynamics 365. The system often restricts direct modifications to inactive records to maintain data integrity and prevent unintended changes.

Here's how you can approach bulk updating the stage of your 40 inactive opportunity records:
    1. Reactivate the Records (Recommended):
    • Bulk Reactivation:
      • This is the most straightforward and recommended approach.
      • Go to your list of inactive opportunity records.
      • Select all 40 records.
      • Use the "Activate" button (or similar) to reactivate them.
    • Bulk Edit the Stage:
      • Once reactivated, select the records again.
      • Use the "Edit" button (or similar) to perform a bulk edit.
      • Change the stage to your desired value.
    • Bulk Deactivate (If Needed):
      • If you need the records to be inactive again, select them and use the "Deactivate" button.
    2. Using a Workflow (If Reactivation Is Not Desired):
    • Create an On-Demand Workflow:
      • Go to Settings > Processes.
      • Create a new workflow for the Opportunity entity.
      • Set the category to "Workflow."
      • Set the type to "On demand."
      • Uncheck "Run this workflow in the background (recommended)."
    • Add an "Update Record" Step:
      • Add an "Update Record" step to the workflow.
      • In the update step, set the stage to your desired value.
    • Run the Workflow:
      • Go to your list of inactive opportunity records.
      • Select the 40 records.
      • Click "Flow" and select your on-demand workflow.
    3. Using Power Automate (If Reactivation Is Not Desired):
    • Create a Flow:
      • Create a Power Automate flow that is triggered manually.
      • Add a "List rows" action to retrieve the inactive opportunity records.
      • Add an "Update a record" action inside an "Apply to each" loop.
      • In the update action, set the stage to your desired value.
    • Run the Flow:
      • Run the flow manually.

    Important Considerations:
    • Security Roles: Ensure you have the necessary security roles to reactivate and update opportunity records.
    • Business Rules and Plugins: Be aware of any business rules or plugins that might be triggered by these updates.
    • Audit Logs: Dynamics 365 will log all changes, creating an audit trail.

    Why Reactivation Is Recommended:
    • It's the simplest and most direct approach.
    • It avoids potential issues with workflows or code.
    • It ensures that all related system processes are executed correctly.

By following these steps, you can successfully bulk update the stage of your inactive opportunity records.

I want to do a quick double check here before you move forward. Is this a field called [Stage] on the Opportunity table, or is this the stage in the Business Process Flow (the bar along the top)?

If you are talking about the Business Process Flow, that data is actually stored in a separate table in Dataverse. You would need to export/import from the BPF table to make the update. The table name should match the name of the Business Process Flow itself (i.e. Lead to Opportunity Sales Process).

If we are talking about a field on the Opportunity, you should be able to update a field through import while the record remains in a closed status,
