Cant preview GJ due to Document No.

I expect document no. is auto display or auto assign with No Series for the GJ set to Default Nos. - Specifies whether the number series will be used to assign numbers automatically.

The user who copy from excel and populate into General Journal will not know the next number of document no to assign. When user copy from excel to General Journal, the field 'Document No' is blank with red asterisk. No preview nor posting is allowed with this asterisk.

Have I overlook some setup to enable auto assign/display of Document No? Any other suggestion to enable auto assign of Document No when user migrate data from excel to General Journal. Thank you.Cant-post-due-to-SeriesNo.jpg

If you are using the Edit in Excel feature i don't think you have have the document number auto assigned.

For that you will need some customization.  So i would populate the data in Excel with a document number and have it changed if needed after the data is imported into Business Central.

Hi, If you have set No. Series for Batch, you can do the following after importing into the BC.

There are two ways you can do this:

    1) Using Renumber Document Number functions (described by Yun Zhu)

    2) If you are using Copy Paste from Excel, move the Document No. to the end of right column. When you copy and paste from Excel, do not copy the Document No from excel.

For my issue, I am migrating new not editing. So, manual numbering is possible. Thanks.

Appreciate for the screen shot. It helps to speed up my trouble shoot. It works well and document no. populated for my Dr/Cr pair of entry. If paste for more than one pairs of entries, all lines populated with same document no. Your example is 'payment' entry able to populate document no chronologically. Thanks.

    1) YZ suggestion is helpful and able to populate every line of entry. Doc No auto populated chronologically for line with balance account.

    2) After moving Doc No to last column, copy and paste exclude Doc No. able to auto populate every pairs (Dr/Cr Line) of entries chronologically.

    Thanks
