Debug-Test Mode not working

Posted on by Microsoft Employee
Hi, I am using GP version 10.0 (SP5). I got a customized dictionary file from an ex-resource. While I setup and open the resources from Dexterity it works and I am able to create new resources (tables, forms etc). However, when I enter into Test Mode, it opens GP 9 (9.00.0259) login screen and when I put user id and password and click login it shows error "You are using an earlier version of Dynamics.dic than the one that's currently installed on the network". I also checked that in my Dex.ini, entry for Dictionary Version is showing as Dictionary Version=9.00.0259 Even if I change the dictionary version to 10, it automatically updates this entry again back to 9.00.0259 Can anyone help me out to resolve this issue as I have to develop and test new screens. Regards, Waliullah

Do you have installed Great Plains 9 and Dexterity 9?

    If yes, follow below steps.

    1. Copy Dex.ini file from Data folder under your GP 9 installation location and paste this file to Data folder under your Dexterity 9 Installation location.

Note: Make sure you have a back up of the Dex.ini file from Data folder under your Dexterity 9 Installation location.

    2. Go to Dexterity 9 Installation folder and open the file Dex.exe.

    3. In Dexterity, go to File-->Open Dictionary-->Existing Dictionary to open your development dictionary file.

    4. Compile all and synchronize(go to Utilities-->Synchronize) your dictionary and check again.

    Hope this helps!!!

I have added SkipVersionChecks entry in Dex.ini file but the result is same.

Instead I installed Dex 9 and open my development dictionary file (with the name "HBMeu"). It opens correctly, but when I open Test Mode it shows message "You need to run HBMeu.Utilities before you can run HBMeu.dic. do you want to launch HBMeu.dic Utilities now?" I pressed Yes and it didn't open utilities and close the dexterity, next time I pressed No and the result is same.

Another solution I tried to update entry for GP version in Resource Explorer->Application->Install as 10.00.1579 in Module066 as mentioned in article support.microsoft.com/.../920831.

It is now opening the Test mode but when I put user id and password it shows error "A get/change operation on table 'SY_Company_MSTR' failed accessing SQL data." and if i click More Info, it shows message "Number of results columns doesnt match table definition." After that company selection window is opened but no company is available in Company Dropdown.

    Any suggestion.

    Regards,

    Waliullah

Install Dexterity 9 and open the development dictionary in Dex 9 then go to test mode to test your customization.

    Note:

If you don't have Dex 9 but you want to test the customization in Dex 10, add the below line to Dex.ini file in Data folder under Dexterity 10 installation location and go to test mode to test your customization.

    SkipVersionChecks = TRUE

    Hope this helps!!!

Yeah, you are right my development dictionary is GP 9 and if I open test mode it will always show the GP 9 login screen.

What should I do in this regard.

    Waliullah

I need a clarification from you. I surely guess your development dictionary is GP 9 not GP 10. For this case whenever you go to test mode it will shows only the currently dictionary version(GP 9) even though you have opened the development dictionary from the dexterity version 10.

    Please double check and confirm.

    Hope this helps!!!

    Hi Soma,

I have run the above steps but still Test mode is opening in GP 9. For your information before opening Test mode my Dex.ini file showing GP version 10. However, after opening Test Mode Dex.ini file automatically updates GP version to 9.

    Any more suggestion.

    Regards,

    Waliullah

I guess you have opened the development dictionary in GP 9.

To resolve this follow below steps.

    1. Copy Dex.ini file from Data folder under your GP 10 installation location and paste this file to Data folder under your Dexterity 10 Installation location.

Note: Make sure you have a back up of the Dex.ini file from Data folder under your Dexterity 10 Installation location.

    2. Go to Dexterity 10 Installation folder and open the file Dex.exe.

    3. In Dexterity, go to File-->Open Dictionary-->Existing Dictionary to open your development dictionary file.

    4. Compile all and synchronize(go to Utilities-->Synchronize) your dictionary and check again.

    Hope this helps!!!
