AR Aging vs Historical Aged Trial Balance aged as of

I was told that I need to run aging (Tools >> Routines >> Sales >> Aging)  to get the correct aging as of date. However, it seems I can select the aged as of date on historical aged trial balance. If we can get the aging report by just selecting the date on Historical Trial Balance report option, what's the purpose of run the aging tool?

Also, why there is no aging tool for Payable?

I appreciate your help!

Thank you for the explanation, Frank and Leslie. I will run aging tool. I think that will be the right way for us.

The aging process sets the value of the Aging Bucket field in the RM Open

File table. This field is used by the regular Aged Trial Balance report. It is also used by the credit limit warning logic that determines if the warning dialog should be thrown according to settings in the 'Display Credit Limit Warning' window. Also, as Frank said, the inquiry windows and reports rely on the setting in the aging bucket field.

When you print the Historical Aged Trial Balance (HATB), the report itself ages the documents for presentation in the various buckets. It does not update the value of the Aging Bucket field, however. The HATB will take longer to run as your record count increases because it looks at both the Open and History tables. The regular aged trial balance only looks at the Open table.

Another feature that uses the Aging Bucket field is the Finance Charge routine. If you never age your receivables, you'll never levy any finance charges.

So, depending on your volume and the features you want to use, aging the AR documents will be very different than not aging them.

As for Payables, as Frank stated, the payables module automatically ages your payables documents. The two modules (AR and AP) handle this process differently.

Let us know if you have more questions.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie Vail

The Aging date in the report is specific to the report.  The Aging Routine ages documents primarily for the various receivable inquiry windows.

Payables ages automatically, hence no aging routine.
