I have a list under a dashboard which pulls New opportunities . However, if I manually type any CLOSED opportunity in the search bar of that list, it shows that as well. Cant you limit that search bar to only show open opportunities?

i think i have replied to your private message , pasting the same here:
That actually uses the "Quick find search view" behind it.
I believe some has modified the condition in that view because out of the box it wont show closed ones but only open ones.
hence, i would suggest you to go to customization or solution > navigate to opportunity > open view> open the quick find search view in the column "type". Open the view > click on edit filter criteria and add status = open.
close and publish.
