Hi, I have been working with D365 BC on premise with the Premium License for a couple of months already but as basic user, now Im trying to get more deep into the app, getting to know the Dev environment but I´m having some issues with my thrid party consultant who says that I cant even add fields to a page because the license that Im using does not allows me.

Am I not able to work with the development environment with this license or what kind of license should I have to work with.

Can you please help me to understand as I´m really lost.

I have the same question (0)

If you are doing your development in AL as an extension you do not need a license to do the development but you will need a license to run the objects you add to your solutions. Those object license must be purchased through your partner.

If you are using the classic C/AL dev. environment then you will need a solution builder license to do that kind of development.

But from version 14 it is considered best practice to do your development in AL.

Going to make some assumptions here.  You've been using it for a few months, so I'm assuming you are no longer on a trial license and paid money for a license.  You are using BC, and for only a few months, so I am assuming you are on at least version BC17 or higher, since new licenses cannot be generated for older versions.

This means you have a BC17+ license, which has the developer capability included.  If you are just adding Fields to existing tables via AL Extensions you should be just fine with what you have.

Since you are on-premise, you would need to purchase table objects, page objects, etc. if you plan to create new tables/pages/reports/etc.

The statement throwing me off is the mention of "Development Environment", which has not existed since BC14.  All current development is done through Visual Studio Code where you write an Extension using AL.
